It’s installed! The space is still a work in progress, but we’re thrilled to see that this ceiling sculpture itself turned out nicely. We can’t wait to see the final space!
What Happened In Vegas
Matt and Ben have been in fabulous Las Vegas installing this ceiling sculpture in the gaming room of Red Rock Casino. It’s been a long week, starting with a road trip to haul the piece from Portland to Vegas. Here are a few behind-the-scenes peeks at the installation process.
Birds Ceiling Sculpture
Here’s a ceiling sculpture we’re creating for a clubhouse lobby. It will incorporate 35 birds hanging at various heights, each with an 18-inch wingspan. Stay tuned to see progress!
Kites Prototype
We’re creating a prototype for the kites ceiling sculpture so the client can get an idea for the material, its properties, and how the shapes will hang. This shape is created from 3form, a resin-based plastic made using recycled content that we love incorporating into projects. We’re excited to see this come together!
Kites Ceiling Sculpture
We’re starting to work on a fun kite-themed ceiling sculpture for a hospital. We’ll create two matching sculptures for separate locations in the hospital, and each will span 35 feet long by 11 feet wide. We’re going to start refining the kite shapes soon with the material. Stay tuned for updates!
Casino Ceiling Sculpture In the Shop
Matt is spending a lot of quality time lately with metal mesh fabric. The casino ceiling sculpture is coming together, and installation is just a few weeks away!
Leaf Shapes and Finishes
Here are leaf cutouts—redbud, ginkgo, and sycamore—in different finishes for our Canyon Springs leaf mobile.
Casino Ceiling Sculpture Frame
It’s time to start building the casino ceiling sculpture. We rarely fully assemble projects in our shop space, but we really need to for this particular project. We need to ensure the material behaves how we want it to and that we create the movement the client is looking for. We’ve created a frame (consuming a huge chunk of our workspace!) to hang the piece from. Stay tuned for updates!
Leaf Mobile Renderings
We’re starting to make headway on the leaf mobile we’re designing and creating for an Arizona medical office building. This will include several different leaf shapes cut from thin metal that we’ll treat with different chemicals to yield different textures and finishes. More updates coming soon!
The Happiest (Most-Exhausting?) Place on Earth!
After some grueling installations and very long work days, the Ekko Mobiles team skipped town to put in long, grueling days at Disney World. (Grueling days at Disney World are certainly more fun!)
